WordPress Setup themes. How to add Themes to WordPress website ?

For Website Setup, you need a few things to know before you start as a beginner. When you buy and install WordPress the very next up step is to set up and install a theme for your site which gives uniqueness and a design to our website. Once you configured your WordPress simply go to the dashboard of your WordPress and then the appearance and then themes on the left-hand side.

Then click on the “Add a new” theme and you will see the inside of WordPress. You will see there are a lot of themes that you can choose from. Two important things you must know when you plan and run any particular theme for your website. Either you install from inside WordPress themes which are free or may be paid. Or you may go to theme forest.net where you can find premium themes to install. Also, you may google themes and choose from there. In forest.net simply go to the WordPress/blog or magazine and you will see a lot of themes there.

So depending on what you are looking for you can choose either from the WordPress installed free or paid themes or find something from forest.net. It’s completely up to your choice. Anyway, a few important things you need to know before you choose, install, and activate the theme for your WordPress blog. You need to choose the theme according to its performance. Let me share how to do that in a few simple steps below.

How to check the performance/speed of WordPress theme ?

Go to the google speed page insights to check the performance of the theme that you are going to install. Or simply type any page link/URL from your website to check the speed of your page. before you start. Below is the screenshot available on the live page speed detector.

Check the page speed or the WordPress setup theme speed before you finalize.

Enter the URL of the Blog or any blog post and hit the Analyze button to check the speed and performance of your page and the theme that is installed. Always make sure to check the details on the given theme, and the speed performance of it, before you go forward with that theme because this will help load your page super faster when ranked on google. Make sure to check that. Screenshots attached below are the Page speed insights of my personal website.

WordPress URL

Though you may choose any of the free themes available on WordPress that are super fast and very easy to install. But still, go through the details before you apply one of those free or premium themes. On Google, PageSpeed Insights copy and paste your webpage URL and analyze the speed on mobile and desktop.

As you see the screenshot below it is analyzing the page performance on mobile for the given URL of the website. You may test the performance of any page URL in the Google PageSpeed Insight.

Real example

Below is an example of the page speed insights available right now from my website. It shows Page loads 86 % marked in green and is rated good. Whereas, to be honest there is a lot more improvement needed to be done on my side to improve the speed but currently, it is running at this speed.

WordPress Plugins ~

Go top the dashboard of your Blog then move to the plugins and then click on Add New

Once you click on Add new plugins it will take you to the plugins page and you see will see a list of plugins available on that page. If you don’t see the plugin that you are looking for simply type the plugin name on the search bar located on the top right of the page.

Once you get to see the plugin that you are looking for simply activate it. Some plugins are free and some are paid plugins available.

Few important plugins to know about ~

Few important plugins you might need for your website while you plan to set it up. The first one is called Word fence. This requires us to protect our websites. Just go to the plugins located on the lefthand sidebar. Search this plugin into the search bar and install and then activate it. Enter your email id. Enter ok, then continue. If you don’t need any premium license say no and enter to activate. Once you installed the Word fence go to the dashboard directly to check the setup. Configure the setup and download the user configure file, continue and then close.

Now go back to the plugins section again to add a new plugin once again and type it in the search bar. Another plugin that you may install is updraft that is the UpdraftPlus backup plugin. If anything happens to your website it simply restores data back. Well, you can set it up manually as well for a week and so on. Also, Bluehost has its own database where everything is restored. So check the plugins that you need to install according to your need.

There are more plugins that you might need at the beginning of blogging like Pretty links if you want to use affiliate links throughout the blog content that you write. So makes sure what all you need. There are more plugins that you may install like Elementor, Yoast, Securi Security, etc.

More new content will be updated as per my real-life case study and research.
