What is Teriyaki Sauce Made Off ?

Teriyaki sauce is popular all around the world with its savory-salty-sweet flavor with lots of umami undertones. Traditionally the main ingredients that are used in Japan are soy sauce, mirin, and sake with a few pinches of sugar and ginger in some cases. But nowadays a variation in flavors is being introduced by adding brown sugar, ginger and garlic, orange juice/pineapple juice, and of course including the sesame seeds to give the sauce a crunchy nutty effect.

This teriyaki sauce also goes well with meat, such as chicken, beef, fish, and pork, when used as a marinade. For example honey barbeque chicken which is very popular with an added extra flavor of lemon juice or zest in it.

Traditionally, teriyaki sauce was used with fish, in Japanese cuisine. It is used to top fishes like mackerel, salmon, marlin, trout, yellowtail, and skipjack tuna.
