In this recipe, I have used frozen green peas and potatoes as the two main ingredients. Then simply sauteed these in some oil along with the spices. Cooked for 15 to 20 minutes and done. This could be a great breakfast in the morning with a warm glass of milk. Also, you may enjoy these as a snack anytime, especially during the winter times when peas are found fresh and frozen in grocery stores.

  • 1 teaspoon Hing (Asafedita)
  • 1 cup potato (cut into small pieces)
  • 1 cup tomato (fine-chopped)
  • 1 Green Chilli (chopped)
  • 1 teaspoon ginger
  • Black salt and regular salt to taste
  • ½ teaspoon Chilli Powder
  • 1 teaspoon cumin powder (jeera powder)
  • 1/2 teaspoon of coriander powder
  • ¼ teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1/2 Garam masala powder
  • ½ teaspoon black Pepper Powder (kali mirch)
  • ½ Lemon (Juice of) or Amchur powder
  • Add some fresh curry leaves or Coriander Leaves (chopped)

Steps to prepare

When it comes to the ingredients, I’ve already stated the two main ingredients: green peas and potatoes. The remaining components are cumin seeds, green chilies, black salt, black pepper, lemon juice or mango powder (Amchur), mustard oil or regular oil, curry leaves or coriander leaves, or both.

You can choose to exclude onion and ginger entirely from this ghugni dish. It’ll be the ideal breakfast or snack for you all—without any onions or garlic.

  1. Heat up some oil in a saucepan or Indian wok (karahi)
  2. Once the oil is hot add some cumin seeds and let these splutter
  3. Add some chopped onions and fry until the rawness of it disappears.
  4. Add some Hing (Asafedita) and quickly stir
  5. Immediately add small chopped potatoes and saute for some time,
  6. Quickly add the green peas and continue to saute
  7. Then add the spices like cumin and coriander powder, turmeric powder, grated ginger, red chili powder, curry leaves, mango powder, some black and regular salt, and some garam masala powder. Mix, stir and saute these for some time and continue to cook uncovered on a slow flame by frequent stirring.
  8. Then add some finely chopped tomatoes and continue to stir and cook for a while.
  9. Lastly, sprinkle some black powder and lemon juice on it and mix.

Serve these hot as breakfast along with a glass of milk, tea, or coffee, and enjoy with your family and friends. Also, this could be a great healthy snack for anyone, whether old or young 🙂
