Quick and easy tea time snack, which serves 5 easily I must say. Perfect for snacking with family and friends. The recipe begins with soaking the red lentils ( Masoor Dhal ) in water for 2 hours. After 2 hours these become slightly softer. Grind these coarser with some salt, and peppers πΆ (red or black) and you may also add some more spices or fresh herbs πΏ into it to add up some extra flavors as per choice π Once the mixture is ready, take small portions and deep fry them into hot oil until turn crispy crunchy, and golden brown in color. Enjoy these hot along with some chutneys for eg like sweet mint chutney, coriander chutney, or sauce of choice:)
Iβm using a chopper to grind these coarse. This is because the slightly coarse mixture turns out extra crisp on the top and I personally like these especially more when I’m craving some crunchy and tasty π bites for snacking. You may also grind them coarse by using a grinding jar. We just need to grind them lightly. For a coarse grind, 8-10 seconds, a few seconds at a time should do nicely. For a medium grind, try short bursts that add to 10-15 seconds, and a fine grind would be a few seconds or more longer. So basically the mixture is a combination of a coarse, medium, and a fine burst.
Heat up sufficient oil into a deep frying pan and it’s all set to fry. Make sure the temperature of the oil should be hot but not extra hot or else once you drop these it will be burnt from the top and not well cook inside. So heat up the oil first, lower the flame and drop some batter into the oil slowly one by one. Stir and fry them up in low to medium flame for 4 to 5 minutes or until turns golden brown in color. These turn crispy on the top and perfect inside. Enjoy hot with some chutney or sauces βΊοΈπ

- Total time required 2 hours and 45 minutes
Step by Step Directions to prepare along with the images shown below
Red Lentils ( Masoor Dhal ) 2 cups
Wash and rinse πΏ under running water 3 to 4 times until you see a better clean water running out of it. You may use a strainer as well for washing these.
Use hands to rub and clean them
Add 2 and 1/2 cups of water and let them soak in water for 2 hours minimum
After 2 hours of soaking these turns out softer, and easily breaks from the center in pressure it with your finger tips.
We need to grind these coarser because this makes the texture of the fritters more crispier and crunchy. I have used a chopped to coarse them nicer. You may use a grinder as well.

Transfer the lentils into a chopper or a grinder
Add green green chili chopped 2 or as required
Salt as per taste
Coarsely grind these
As you may see in the image below the mixture now ready
Similarly grind all the lentils and discard all the water
Prepare all and transfer into a large bowl . Give it a nice mix.
Take small portions and drop one by one into hot oil for deep frying them
Stif the fritters occasionally to deep fry them nicely until turns golden brown in color
These turns crispy and crunchy on the top
Once done frying drain excess oil and transfer preferably on top of a kitchen towel or a cotton cloth because this step would help soaking the extra oil from the fritters and feels less oily.
Serve and enjoy these with any chutney or sauce of choice:)
