Paneer tempura sushi roll or Indian cheese sushi roll is a completely vegetarian recipe made with crispy paneer tempura and chunky organic avocado. Simple and easy to make at home. A healthy choice to relish and enjoy.

As I am a big fan of sushi and enjoyed making it at home many times with different fillings, Actually tried different ways to make it. By watching and exploring many videos and channels I found something new and different. As me and my family loves paneer somehow I found a different way of making this paneer sushi tempura roll.

Taste and texture:

Paneer Sushi tempura roll feels crispy from outside and soft from inside Slightly chunky and spicy avocado makes it more delicious.

Ingredients for paneer tempura are as follows:

Paneer cut into sticks 400 grams

All-purpose flour 1/2 cup

Salt 1/2 tsp

Water 1/2 cup

Pepper powder or red chili powder optional

Rice flour 1/4 cup

Sesame seeds white 1 tbsp

Pinch of salt in the rice flour

Steps to follow:

Cut paneer into sticks and keep aside.

Take All purpose flour into a bowl then add salt, baking powder, red chili powder/black pepper powder as per taste (optional), and add water gradually to make a batter easy to dip the paneer and fry. The consistency should not be too thick or thin.

Take some rice flour separately to give a second layer of dry coating. Add a pinch of salt and sesame seeds (white) into it and mix.

Dip the sliced paneer into the batter and then roll it into the rice flour for coating and then deep fry in low to medium flame until turns golden brown in color and keep them aside for later use.

The perfect way of making sushi rice:

The main part of all these different types of sushi is obviously rice. It’s vital that this is made well, so whatever type of sushi you choose to make will turn out super delicious!

To make perfect sushi rice, you need the right rice. For making sushi you need to use short-grain rice because these are sticky in nature and perfect for making any type of sushi. You may choose Koshihikari rice from Japanese grocery stores, supermarkets, and online stores. Choosing the right type of rice and cooking it properly can improve the quality of sushi.

Size of the sushi:

The standard size of a sushi roll is 8 inches (21cm) long and about 2 inches (5 cm) in diameter. It is determined by the size of a Nori seaweed sheet. The nori seaweeds standard size is 7.5 x 8 inches (19 x 21 cm). The size of sushi rolls that you can purchase from a sushi takeaway is usually ½ of one full-sized roll.

Ingredients I used to make the sushi vinegar

Ingredients for sushi vinegar:

You can use a bottle of ready-made sushi vinegar. However, you can make your own sushi vinegar mixture easily from just three ingredients; rice vinegar, sugar, and salt. Place the three ingredients in a small saucepan and slightly warm it. Do not heat too much otherwise, you will lose the fragrance of the vinegar. Cool to room temperature. If you can not access, Rice vinegar you can substitute this with champagne vinegar, white wine vinegar or apple cider vinegar. So basically Into a cup or bowl add 4 tbsp of rice vinegar, add 2 tbsp of sugar and 1 tsp of salt. Mix until sugar dissolves or warm it up a little to mix and keep aside.

Steps to make the sushi rice?

First step is to choose the perfect sushi rice. Then take the rice in a large bowl or a strainer and wash them nicely under running water 6 to 7 times or more unless you see the clean water running out.

In the second step, you will need to boil the washed rice by adding water into it and boil it in low flame throughout the process. The level of the water here we going to use is little above the rice. Too much water can ruin the rice. Once boiled the rice should not be mushy. The grains should look whole but soft to touch. The amount of rice I’m going to use is 2 cups and water is 2 cups as well.

Once you see the rice has come to boil and all the water has evaporated. Immediately turn off the flame, you may also check with the help of a spoon or spatula and make sure there is no water left. Then cover it with a lid and let it stay like that for 10 minutes. You may watch the video for better understanding.

The third step is to transfer the rice into a flat pan and gradually add the sushi vinegar that we made into it by mixing it with the help of the fork slowly. The fork makes it easier to mix as the rice is sticky in nature. Once done mixing let’s make our roll. This step adds up the glossiness to the rice and it looks beautiful.

How to make the sushi roll?

For making the sushi roll we need Nori the seaweed sheet. I am using a Nori sheet which I bought from Amazon. I got the whole set of making a sushi roll and I am excited to share that with you all. Steps to make the sushi roll are as follows:

Spread the sushi making wooden mat. Place the Nori seaweed sheet on top of it. Make sure to put the shiny side of the sheet down and the non-shiny part up.

Spread around 1 cup of rice on the Nori sheet, Use water to wet the fingertips while you spread the rice as they are too sticky to touch. Fill out the corners as well. Then put the chunky and spicy guacamole lined on the center of the nori and place the paneer tempura sushi roll lined parallel on the sides of the guacamole.

Rolling:

Rolling is a little tricky but once you do it you will get an idea of, how to do it perfectly. By holding and folding the wooden mat tightly, makes the rolling easy. You need to tuck the nori inside and roll the whole thing tight. Watch the video carefully for easy understanding.

Serving tips

Serve this with Wasabi sauce. This sauce is usually mixed with soya sauce and is served with sushi.
