Okra or bhindi recipe: This is the easiest way to make and a tasty recipe made with spices. Okra benefits health in many ways as well. Basic ingredients used to make this recipe are as follows listed below:

Texture:

The texture of the cooked form of okra or bhindi is soft and slurry from inside. When deep fried it seems to be a little bit crunchy from outside. Okra looks very appealing, easy to cook, versatile and healthy. Note: Use fresh okra to cook for best results. This okra or bhindi recipe could be served with siders in many ways.

Ingredients used

Okra chopped 4 cups

Refined oil 2-3 tbsp

Onion chopped 1 cup

Ginger paste 1 tsp

Garlic paste 1tsp

Green chili chopped as per taste

Tomato chopped 1 cup

Spices used:

Shahi jeera (cumin seeds) whole 1 tsp

Black cumin seeds 1tsp

Black salt 1/2 tsp

Salt 1 tsp or as per taste

Turmeric powder 1 tsp

Aesophidita 1/2 tsp

Garam masala powder 1 tbsp

Mango powder or Amchur 1/2 tsp

Corriander powder 1 tsp

Cumin powder 1 tsp

Sugar 1 or !/2 tbsp

Procedure to make:

Wash the okra nicely under warm and cold water and pat dry by using a kitchen towel. Cut and wash okra into small pieces and keep aside while you prepare the spices.

Heat a saucepan add 2 to 3 tbsp of oil and let the oil heat for some time. Add regular cumin seeds and black cumin seeds into it and let it splutter. Add ginger and garlic paste and saute for few seconds. Then add chopped onions and all the spices into it as mentioned above in the list of ingredients, like cumin powder, coriander powder, garam masala powder, aesophodita, turmeric, black salt, mango powder, regular salt, and mix and saute for few seconds.

When the spices look cooked add chopped tomatoes into it and saute for a minute. Then add okra into it and cover and cook for about a minute. Check-in between and lastly add little sugar and cover and cook again. Keep the flame low to medium while cooking. Keep stirring in between and cook it around half an hour or until you see the okra is soft enough and cooked well. This is the easiest way to make okra.

Cook time:

  • Time for preparation before cooking: 45 minutes, includes cutting and washing.
  • Time to cook: 40 minutes

Serving tips:

Enjoy this with any bread of your choice. Usually, this vegetable is eaten with Indian bread or paratha along with some raita. The combination of all these tastes awesome. Raita is a side dish you can have with this preparation. Raita could be made in many ways: Like boondi raita, onion raita, potato raita or just plain raita. Steps for making onion raita:

Into a bowl add 1 cup of yogurt and whisk it nicely.

Add roasted cumin seed powder 2 tsp

Red chili powder as per taste

Salt as per taste or 1 tsp

Add some coriander leaves on top

Add Chopped Onions 1/2 cup into the mixture and mix nicely

This goes well with okra vegetable along with roti or paratha. Or even you may enjoy this with any fried rice.

Cook time:

Time varies according to the quality of okra. If these are fresh they get cooked really nice within 15 to 20 minutes in low flame. Cook time also depends on the amount of oil used to cook these.
