Directions to prepare Dry roasted fresh pumpkin seeds/ Pumpkin seeds with spices/ Snacks
Take out the seeds from the fresh pumpkin by cutting it from the center. Thoroughly wash and clean the seeds by rubbing these with your hands so that all the pumpkin sticking on the seeds comes out and is completely clean and shiny before roasting.
Use a paper towel or a cotton cloth to soak all the water and let these spread on a paper towel nicely for 2 hours minimum. Put these directly under the sun or under the fan so that these dry up completely and gets ready for dry-roasting. Once dried completely dry roast them for 7 to 10 minutes on low flame
After these are being dry roasted sauté them in some coconut oil for about 5 minutes in low flame them mix some salt, paprika, black pepper powder, brown sugar, or regular white sugar and roasted cumin powder. These turn out so crunchy and crispy light and nutty flavored snacks.
Ingredients required to prepare Dry roast pumpkin seeds are
- Coconut oil or any oil of choice
- Some salt
- Paprika
- Dry-roasted cumin seeds powder
- Some black pepper powder
- Sprinkle some brown sugar or regular white sugar
Total cook time
- Washing and cleaning 30 minutes for 1/2 a cup of pumpkin seeds
- Drying 2 hours
- Time to sauté these with the spices 10 minutes
- Total time 2 hours and 40 minutes approx.

Washing and Cleaning the seeds
These are the fresh pumpkin seeds which is being taken out from the freshly cut pumpkin
Wash and clean them using a strainer nicely under running water
Using hands rub the seeds and pull out all the pumpkin sticking around to the seeds
Once the seeds are nicely washed allow to drain all the water so leave these for 10 to 15 minutes in the strainer by putting a double folded kitchen towel underneath or a cloth so that the water soaks in it nicely.
Drying the seeds
After say 10 to 15 minutes spread them out again on a kitchen towel or a cloth nicely.
Using another kitchen towel on top press these with hands to soak any extra water.
Now keep them in the direct sunlight or under a ceiling fan for 2 hours or more to dry completely before dry-roasting them.
Pull out the seeds from the tissue or a kitchen towel. These are now completely dried out and is ready for dry-roasting
Dry-Roasting the seeds
Heat a pan and dry-roast them by continuous stirring in low flame for 7 – 10 minutes
These turns slightly golden brown in color
Transfer immediately into an another surface
Mixing up the seeds with the spices
Heat the pan again and add some coconut oil or any other oil of choice.
Transfer the seeds into the pan
Continuously stir and dry roast them for 5 minutes before adding spices. Then sprinkle some dry roasted cumin seeds powder
Sprinkle some paprika
Some brown sugar or regular white sugar
Some salt
Stir and cook 5 more minutes or until turns light and crisp to taste
Transfer immediately into another container and allow to cool
These are now done dry roasting along with some spices. Gets light and crisp. Could be easily stored in an air tight jar. Great as snacks or Could be used in preparing some sweets and desserts.
