Condensed milk recipe: This recipe is prepared using cow’s milk from which water has been removed. It is most often found with sugar added, in the form of sweetened condensed milk which is available in the market mostly canned. This could be prepared easily at home with just 2 ingredients i.e milk and sugar and could be used in many sweet recipes and desserts and baking purposes.
Taste and texture:
This is sweetened condensed milk creamy and thick in texture. Thick flow consistency.
Ingredients required to prepare this are as follows:
- 2 cups of full-fat milk ( whole milk )
- Sugar 3/4 cup ( granulated sugar )
Directions to prepare Condensed milk at home:
Into a thick bottom pan add 2 cups of milk and 3/4 cup of granulated sugar. Put it on a heat at low flame. Keep stirring with a spatula in low flame until the sugar dissolves completely. Do not let it simmer unless the sugar has dissolved completely.
As soon as the sugar has dissolved allow it to cook and simmer in low flame for about 35 to 40 minutes. Keep stirring in between to avoid sticking milk into the bottom of the pan. The milk has to be reduced by simmering and cooking process. Remove any scum forming around the milk to get clear condensed milk.
When you see that the milk has reduced in volume make sure to remove the dried milk formed around slowly scraping onto the sides of the pan to achieve a clear texture just like store-bought. Finally, at this point turn off the flame and allow it to cool completely. Initially, it looks too liquidy but once stored in the refrigerator the consistency gets slightly thicker.
Transfer into a jar and then refrigerate few hours or overnight. The consistency gets thicker after refrigerating. Looks thick and creamy just like store bought ones.
Serving: This recipe gave me exactly 1 cup of condensed milk.
