Sardine is the wild-caught sea fish canned and sealed, completely dipped in olive oil, and is smooth, shiny silverish skinned fish. These are soft and tastes buttery, and are really tasty. Let’s go through the quick recipe and know how to cook this with just a few ingredients such as some thinly sliced onions with some garlic cloves and chopped or diced potatoes and tomatoes as the main ingredients.

Ingredients required to prepare sardines are listed below –

  • Onions 🧅 1 large, thin sliced.
  • Garlic cloves 🧄 4 in number, thin sliced
  • Potato 🥔 1 medium-small chopped
  • Tomato 1 medium finely chopped
  • Dry- Red chili 🌶 ground 1 teaspoon
  • Black pepper powder 1 teaspoon
  • Salt 🧂 as required
  • Sardines canned 3 boxes 📦
  • Regular oil 2 tablespoons

Directions to prepare ~

  • Into a frying pan heat 2 tablespoons of regular oil.
  • Once the oil is hot add 1 teaspoon of cumin seeds and let these splutter.
  • Immediately after that add thinly sliced onions and sauté.
  • Add thin-sliced garlic cloves and sauté along with the onions in low to medium flame 🔥 until the rawness of the garlic and onions disappear and turn slightly golden brown in color.
  • Now add 1 medium potato 🥔 chopped or diced, and fry few minutes or until 90 percent cooked.
  • Add finely chopped tomatoes 🍅 1 medium and sauté until soft and mushy.
  • Next, add the canned sardines one by one, as these are so soft and tender that they tend to break, even if you are handling it carefully but that’s ok. Because there would not be any difference in the taste.
  • Cook 👩‍🍳 sardines a few minutes in low flame. Turn to the other side carefully and cook few minutes.
  • Cover it with a lid and let it cook and simmer on low flame sometimes. Starts to smell good.
  • Enjoy with steamed rice or anything you want to try.
