Butter Cookies. Crisp and easy to prepare at home anytime. Holiday special cookies. Perfectly baked and light sweet crisp cookies with amazing buttery flavor which simply melts into the mouth. Do not hesitate to make these at home. Make sure to give it a try, I must say that if you really love cookies. So easy and quick to prepare. You just need 3 main ingredients to prepare these buttery melt-in-the-mouth cookies. These are our favorite 🤩 family cookies and we all love these especially during the holidays and Christmas 🎄 time. It is so much fun to prepare these, especially with the kids.
We need only 3 main ingredients to prepare these Butter Cookies like Softened butter, Granulated Sugar, All-purpose flour, and standing sugar sparkles. Also since I am using unsalted butter for the recipe I am using a pinch of salt to balance the flavor. Skip adding salt if you are using salted butter.
Ingredients that we need to prepare Butter Cookies are
- Unsalted Softened Butter 113 gm ( 4 Oz ) that’s approx. 1/2 cup + 2 tablespoons
- All-purpose flour 1 cup
- Granulated sugar 1/4 cup
- Standing sugar sparkles as required. You may use granulated sugar if this is not available to you.
- Salt 1/4 teaspoon
Total time to cook Butter Cookies:
- Time to prepare the cookie dough: 15 minute
- Refrigeration: 1 hour and 10 minutes
- Bake time: 15 minutes
- Total Time consumed: 1 hour and 45 minutes
Importance of the ingredients that are used to prepare Butter Cookies
- Softened butter: makes the cookies crisp, and adds up buttery flavor which makes it way too yummy 😋
- All-purpose flour adds up the texture
- Granulated Sugar for sweetness and texture
- Standing sugar sparkles adds up little extra sweetness to the crisp buttery cookies with an extra crunch feeling thus building up the texture
- Salt to balance the flavor
Directions to prepare Butter Cookies
Into a bowl take softened butter 🧈 113 gms or 4 oz. In cups, it’s around 1/2 cup + 2 tablespoons. Beat the butter using a hand beater until light and fluffy. Add granulated sugar 1/4 cup, salt 1/4 teaspoon, and beat along with the butter. As soon as the butter and sugar mixture turns light and smooth add All-purpose flour in two portions and mix with the cut and fold method using a spatula. Give it a quick mix using a hand beater. The mixture crumbles. Transfer the mixture onto a flat surface and use hands to form a dough. Roll it long and shape it well. You may shape it the way you like.
Rolling
Next, roll the cookie dough log and wrap it in parchment paper, then double roll in a silver foil tightly. Close the ends by folding the wraps. You may also use food wrap instead.
Freezing
Freeze it for 1-hour minimum for best results.
Cutting and decorating
Take it out from the refrigerator and unwrap it. Use a board to cut them into pieces. Use a sharp-edged knife. Cut and use standing sugar sparkles to coat these on the top. Coat one side of the cookies with sugar sparklers. These look delicious and add extra crunchy sugary texture to the cookies. If in case you don’t have standing sugar sparkles then you may use simply granulated sugar to sprinkle on the top.
Prepare all the cookies and refrigerate back again for 10 minutes until you preheat the oven.
Baking:
Line them up on a baking tray onto parchment paper and bake at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 15 minutes or when you see the bottom of the cookies turn slightly golden brown in color take them out from the oven.
Cooling:
Take them out from the oven and allow them to cool sometime on the tray itself as these are too soft to touch initially but get crisp once completely cold.
Transfer these on a cooling rack once slightly cold and easy to touch.

Step by Step method along with images shown below
Use Softened Butter (room temperature) 4 Oz I.e 113 g. In the cup, it should be around 1/2 cup + 2 tablespoons of butter.
Beat the butter preferably using a hand beater until smooth and fluffy.
Beat few minutes…
Add 1/4 cup of granulated sugar and beat until light and fluffy.
Beat it thoroughly few minutes…
When the mixture looks light and fluffy … stop beating further
Collect all at one place using a spatula
Add 1/4 teaspoon of salt. I have used unsalted butter so I am adding salt to it. If you are using salted butter skip adding more salt to it.
Give it a quick mix
Add All-purpose flour 1 cup gradually into it and mix it by cut and fold method. Add flour into two portions.
Mix by cut and fold method.. that’s because it’s easy to mix.

The mixture turns crumbly
Preparing the Cookie Dough
Transfer the mixture onto a flat surface and mix using hands to form a dough.
Prepare a dough by lightly kneading it. Then roll it long. Prepare a cookie Log.
Place it on a parchment paper and roll it long.
Roll the parchment paper tightly around the cookie dough
Wrap the dough with the parchment paper 📝 tightly. You may use plastic wrap instead.
Double wrap it with a silver foil and freeze for an hour.
Tuck and fold at the corners
Refrigerating the cookie dough:
Refrigerate for 1 hour
Take it out from the refrigerator just before baking these.
Cut it into pieces
Use standing sugar sparkles. If in case these are not available to you may use granulated sugars as well.
Cover one side of your cookies with these sugar sparkles.
Prepare all and refrigerate for 10 more minutes before you bake these for best results
Baking:
Line them up on a baking tray.
Preheat the oven at 350 degrees Fahrenheit and bake for 15 minutes or until you see the bottoms of the cookies get golden brown in color.
Once done ✔️ baking take them out.
These are soft when hot. Gets crisp as soon as they are completely cold.
Place them on a cooling rack once slightly cold.
Serve and Enjoy
