Introduction:

Baked Ziti is a popular Italian dish. Made with loaded Cheese. Along with Homestyle sauce describing the easiest way to make it. So yummy and gooey in taste. Simply love it. A must-try recipe.

About: This is so simple to make. You just need to choose your choice of cheese and ziti that you wanted to prepare. In this recipe I’m using Ricotta and shredded Mozzarella cheese and a homemade sauce made in olive oil along with fresh basil 🌿 leaves and organic oregano with some extra added flavor of hand-crushed pepper and salt as per taste. Sounds so simple right? So let’s move towards the recipe.

Directions to make :

Boil 3 and 1/2 cup of ziti into saltwater and strain them out when cooked. But do not overcook because it will be cooked more during baking.

Blanching the tomatoes:

  1. This is done by cutting the top edge of the tomatoes by knife and making a mark like X and then boiling them into the water for few seconds or a minute which also depends on the quality of the tomatoes as well.
  2. Once they are boiled in water for some time take them out with the help of a tong and drop them into cold water.
  3. Then peel the skin out from the mark X. And then chop them and threw the harder part of it. We need around 4 and 1/2 cups of tomato sauce.

Preparing the sauce:

  • Heat a pan add 3 tbsp of olive oil. Once the oil gets warm add 1 cup of chopped pinions and stir fry them till golden brown.
  • Take 7 to 8 garlic and chop them and stir fry them
  • Add one cup of chopped onions and stir fry them too along with the garlic
  • Put few fresh basil leaves, 2 tbsp of oregano. Stir and mix all nicely and sauté them.
  • Salt as per taste
  • 2 tbsp of black pepper powder or hand crushed peppers.
  • Add blanched tomatoes. Mix and stir. Cover and cook for some time.
  • Add 2 cups of water. Cover and let it cook 5 to 10 minutes until softens. Do not let the sauce dry because of liquid sauce the Zitis will bake nicely inside the oven or else it might burn.

Mixing:

  • Use a flat container and add the first layer of your sauce. Then spread a layer of zitis. On top of your zitis add 2 big spoons full of Ricotta cheese and mix. then put a layer of shredded fresh mozzarella cheese and mix them up a little with the help of a spoon or spatula. Again repeat the process the same way adding little more of mozzarella than the ricotta. The amount of Mozzarella cheese should be more than Ricotta. This gives a very balanced flavor of the cheese mixture. Repeat the process 3 to 4 times and mix until all your sauce and pasta marinates well into the sauce and cheese.
  • In a separate oven-safe bowl pour all the mixture and finally cover it up with the layer of shredded mozzarella cheese. Now, this top layer has to be thick and the zitis should be covered nicely with Mozerella.

Bake:

Bake it for 27 to 30 minutes at 350 F. Once done baking you can see the top of the cheese quoting slightly changes its color to a golden brown color and looks cooked and the inside cheese melts nice and hot. Sizzling baked ziti is ready to serve. Below is the picture attached.

Serving tips:

Serve hot with roasted garlic potatoes or chicken and string beans because side dishes always make a difference.

  1. Pasta is such a comforting food, I do not eat it to often, as I am sensitive to Gluten but sometimes you just can’t say no! This would be great with a little smoked bacon! Yum!
