Short Summary
To prepare almond milk soak 1/2 a cup of Almonds overnight for the best result. . If you want you may peel the skin or just grind these along with the skin as I did in this recipe. Then grind them in a blending jar using around 3 cups of water, to prepare smooth pouring consistency milk.
The next, step is to strain the milk using a cheesecloth to achieve a super fine texture just like the store-bought ones and enjoy the way you like.
Steps to prepare Almond Milk at home
- Soak a 1/2 cup of almonds minimum for 5 hours or overnight for best result
The next day drain out the water and wash with clean water once or twice.
- Peel the skin if you want (optional). I prefer to grind these along with the peels then later seive them using a triple folded chesse cloth. The residual almond pulp i prefer to use later in some currys or desserts.
- Transfer these into a blender along with water and blend smooth (total water added is 3 cups)
- Blending– While you blend these make sure not to add all the water together to grind these. Use half of the water and keep the rest to use while you strain out the milk. This way you can also adjust the consistency accordingly.
- Straining- Place the cheese cloth on top a strainer for easy experience.
- Sieve the milk through the strainer using water. Stir with a spoon so that the milk passes through the strainer nicely and the solids stay on the top of it. The milk solids that could not be strained could be easily used while you prepare some curry or gravy or mix when you prepare some sweets or desserts.
- Once strained nicely keep the milk solids aside for later use in some gravy or desserts if you like.
- You may add some sweetener, for example honey or jaggery or any sugar free sweetener to enjoy (optional)
